kinetic installation
This landmark for the Woudhoek, shows a tree that can not be found yet in the area . The abstract tree wobbles in the wind, because of the special suspension of the frames. That suspension is a unique invention of Wim Schermer, which is also aplied in the ‘floppy tower’. If you leave the district, he waves you goodbye and when you return home, he greets you again.
The tree represents the character of this 40 year old district: flexible and steadfast. A tree that bends in the wind does not break. The way it moves gives the abstract form a human character, so you can come to love the artwork. The landmark provides a fascinating spectacle and the abstract design leaves room for multiple interpretations.
description: The archetypal form of a conifer uses frames made of galvanized steel tube. As with the ‘floppy tower’ the 6 frames are suspended by stainless steel cables. Therefore they move in the wind and seem to be floating. (Ø 2.3 x 7.6 m3)
