eau de vie

All themes and opinions of Karst Woudstra are given a chance in this play. The hopelessness of gay-life, the impossibility of physical love, the desire for the ‘stability of marriage’, the banality of a denying heterosexual world and at the end a regression into a bottomless childhood.

A chilly clair-obscur formed the concept for the set design. The strictly framed light defines the place of the scene in an extremely sober environment. As long as hope is part of the play, the set hermetically encloses the actors. Only at the end, when the situation is hopeless, the scenery gives room to breathe (top picture).
