choreoroam

Choreoroam is an international exchange project for upcoming choreographic talents from six European countries. 9 Choreographers are challenged to study and research their individual process in the creation of modern dance. During an 8 month period they subsequently visit the participating dance institutions in THe netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Denmark, Spain and The United Kingdom.

At Dansateliers Rotterdam (Netherlands) the choreographers were confronted with 2 so called DJ’s. Ronald van Tol selected specific pieces of music to which they had to relate themselves. Wim Schermer manipulated the space in which they had to move, being a space-jockey.

Choreographers are used to take the space with their performers, but what if that space is already fully occupied? That’s what the installation ballroom did in a way that one couldn’t neglect it. The installation could change appearance and be manipulated itself, so it became a dance partner for the choreographer.
